Gaspard is pale and thin, with short, dark hair that is in a perpetual state of tousle. He wears dark makeup around his eyes, giving him a somewhat skull-like visage. While adventuring, he wears a suit of scale armor, and carries a chevron shield with the symbol of the Raven Queen painted upon it. When not casting clerical magic, he eschews the shield to use a quarterstaff two-handed. Sometimes, he uses one or both of the handaxes usually resting on his belt.
It was raining. I think it was raining. My face was wet. With tears, at least. But I think it was raining.
The black birds, they were feasting. The menu? My family.
But the birds, they were just doing what animals do. Eating to survive. There was no malice in it.
A natural disaster. A fire. The forest, burning. The smoke, choking. The house … ashes.
I had been away. Fishing. Hunting. I do not remember. I found shelter from the storm. In a cave perhaps.
In the morning, I made my way home. To where home had been. It was gone.
The old man came. A priest of the fey. A death warden. The Queen’s beloved.
He helped me bury them. And though I was not kith or kin, he took me in.
The work was hard, but no harder than it had been with my blood family.
He taught me. The philosophy. The invocations. The vespers.
We traveled the woods. We buried the dead. We gave succor to the grieving.
It was a good life.
And then the visions came. Blood. Death. Fire. Flood. Hell.
I shared these with the feypriest. He frowned. He was silent a long while. Then he wasn’t.
He spoke. I listened. He stopped speaking. I considered. I looked into his eyes. I nodded.
So I have crossed the inner sea. Left my home and come here. Where the dreams are stronger.
Where I need to be.
Gaspard is sweet-natured, empathetic to those suffering from the grief of loss. He is generally upbeat, though he is prone to bouts of melancholy when his dreams are particularly bad and he hasn’t gotten enough sleep. In dangerous situations, his demeanor changes, and he fiercely protects his companions and anyone he perceives as weaker than himself.
